Welcome to Brunswick, Georgia
Brunswick, the second-largest city on the Georgia coast, is best
known as the gateway to Georgia's Golden Isles. Sea Island's magnificent mansions, and the white-sand beaches
of St. Simon's Island are just a short drive away from this sleepy city's accommodations. However, Brunswick
exudes its own tranquil charm, with its antique houses and moss-laden live oak trees. The city owes its design
to John Glynn, an Englishman who befriended the colonies during the American Revolution. Glynn's infusion of
English essence is apparent in Brunswick's brick streets, which are lined with majestic residences and
architecturally significant historic buildings. Brunswick's maritime heritage includes a stint as an
important port for World War II cargo ships, but its fleet of shrimp boats takes center stage today.
The city calls itself the Shrimp Capital of the World, because its fleet hauls in fresh catches of the
tasty shellfish daily. Brunswick's hotels try to outshine one another, resulting in top-notch customer
service for tourists. Visitors will find that most lodging provides outstanding amenities at reasonable
prices.
Visiting Brunswick
Brunswick, St. Simons Islands, little St. Simon's Island, Sea
Island, and Jekyll Island are collectively known as Brunswick and the Golden Isles of Georgia. The Golden
Isles, separated from the mainland by salt marshes, tidal rivers, and sounds, are some of the most pristine
barrier islands in the United States. Brunswick places visitors just a short distance from the Golden Isles'
gorgeous beaches and numerous recreational opportunities. Guests should not leave Brunswick without first
sampling the Brunswick stew, which supposedly originated in the town. The stew, which combines different
meats with a variety of vegetables, is prepared at its creator's discretion - many of Brunswick's restaurants
offer their own version of the concoction.
